The SP Lager Bungim Yumi Song Competition is part of the flagship brand’s 70 years celebration.
2022 marks the 70th anniversary of the launch of the SP Lager brand. To commemorate this, SP Brewery designed a special logo for the brand, which was launched in April. The anniversary logo has been incorporated into all the brand’s activities in the market, including television advertising, radio, social media, and billboards.
The logo is also featured on the Company’s fleet, on-site at the two breweries, and on cooling equipment out in trade.
The limited-edition collectible packaging design on SP Lager bottles and cans is now available in the market.
A 70-Year Journey with the Nation
From our wonderfully diverse and unique country, SP Lager was born in 1952 and today the green can, and brown bottle maintain a great quality and taste just like they did 70 years ago.
SP Lager draught and bottle first went on sale in Port Moresby on November 26th, 1952. Consumers who packed Moresby and Papuan Hotels to have their first taste were happy with the local brew.
SP Lager won its first international recognition in 1964. Since then, SP Lager has won several international Monde Awards. It owes much of its recognition to its ‘quality’. SP Lager resonates as a national pride as it is enjoyed by Papua New Guineans and international visitors who speak highly of its unique flavour profile.
If you lined a few SP Lager bottles or cans side by side, the story it tells of our national beer embodies the mountains in green, in yellow are valleys, and low-laying areas rich with flora and fauna.
SP Lager since the 1950s has played a significant role in supporting various community activities, from sports to cultural events, boat races, music festivals, and even local bands. One of the earlier sponsorships was to a popular local strong band, Gwadus.
SP Lager believes there are more reasons to come together and celebrate our great country with our national beer, to keep us together rather than apart, through the current slogan “Bungim Yumi”.
“With all its diversity, only a few national brands can actually bring Papua New Guineans together from all walks of life and that is SP Lager” – Ed Weggemans SP Brewery Managing Director.
